Former Australia cricketer Dean Jones has said that a 'big news' will be revealed later in the week, leading to speculations about his possible appointment as Pakistan's new head coach.
According to details, Jones posted a message on his Twitter account, to keep his followers guessing about the big reveal. "Big news to be announced by the end of the week," tweeted Jones.
Dean Jones (58) had earlier applied for the vacant slot of head coach of the Pakistan cricket team.
In October 2017, Dean Jones was also appointed interim head coach of the Afghanistan cricket team for their Intercontinental Cup fixture in Hong Kong.
Jones is the current head coach of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United and has won two titles with them.
Apart from Dean Jones, ex-West Indian pacer Courtney Walsh, Misbah ul Haq were among the applicants for the slot of head coach.
On the other hand, former skipper Misbahul Haq is being considered one of the top contenders for the office of head coach.
Misbah, who is Pakistan's most successful Test captain, has stepped down from the Pakistan Cricket Board's cricket committee to clear the way for his application.
It may be noted that the four-member cricket committee of the PCB recommended the PCB not to renew Mickey Arthur's contract after Pakistan failed to reach the semi-final of the World Cup in England and Wales.
Misbah led 26 wins in 56 Tests as captain, with 19 losses and 11 draws. He retired in 2017.
Pakistan are likely to announce their new head coach ahead of the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka starting in Karachi from September 27.
