Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and a social organization 'Join Hands' on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop Karachi Zoo a 'world class' recreational facility for the visitors. The document was signed by the Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar and Director Join Hands Zubair Habib here at the Karachi Zoo. As per the agreement, Join Hands would help making Karachi Zoo a world class recreational facility through its technical cooperation which also includes the training of the zoo staff.
Addressing to the ceremony, the Mayor said, "Parks and heritages get much importance all over the world but we are doing opposite to it and the result is that many of the city parks are now in devastated condition and needs urgent funding," He said that improvement is seen in some parks like Bagh Ibne Qasim Clifton, Hill Park and Safari Park due to efforts and more new parks are coming soon including the Kidney Hill Park and a park in the China Ground at Kashmir Road.
He appealed to the well off to come forward for their city and join hands with KMC in its endeavor to correct the things and bringing improvement in the city. The Mayor said this city contribute about three hundred billion as taxes to the province and country and what it gets in return? The trader's community should raise its voice on this.
Referring to Prime Minister Imran Khan's move of establishing a committee to suggests plans as how to resolve Karachi issues, the Mayor said he would support to federal government under the constitution for solving Karachi problems and bringing an improvement.
Speaking on this occasion, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman said the Karachi Zoo and other parks in Karachi were centre of attraction for visitors in past and now all efforts are being made to restore their beauty and make them a good recreation place. He said that the social organization Join Hands has not only provided cooperation for improving the Karachi Zoo but also expressed readiness for providing training to zoo staff.
