A three-day international training was opened Friday at the IBA-Karachi (city campus). The training is being organised by the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) in coordination with International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation' (IBFD), The Netherlands. It caters to 150 participants mostly from the SRB, with some from private sectors including experts from Pakistan Tax Bar Association.
The training was inaugurated by Shaukat Tareen, former Federal Finance Minister. The training programme manifests avowed interest of the SRB in providing a platform for greater understanding of international best practices on the tax system, to its own tax machinery as well as tax practitioners in the province.
The training is being conducted by three eminent international resource persons from the IBFD, under the auspices of the World Bank. The training focuses on international as well as regional trends and practices of Sales Tax. It aims to provide a unique opportunity to tax administrators and practitioners to explore solutions to problems that are faced in the enforcement of sales tax on services.
The inauguration was attended by notables from the corporate sectors, leading taxpayers, experts from academia and media. They included Dr Kaiser Bengali, Justice (R) Athar Saeed, Justice (R) Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui, Mr. Wamiq Zuberi, Dr Assad Sayeed, Dr Farrukh Iqbal (Dean IBA Karachi), Abdul Qadir Memon, Saifuddin Zoomkawala, Arif Habib, Bashir Ali Muhammad, Ali Jamil, Syed Asad Ali Shah, and senior government officers.
Speakers in the inaugural session included Dean IBA Karachi, President Pakistan Tax Bar Association, besides the Chief Guest and the Chairman SRB. The Chief Guest Shaukat Tareen gave a perspective of the 7th NFC Award, which he supervised as Finance Minster at that time. The speakers appreciated SRB's role in helping improve the tax culture in the country and realising the importance of capacity building of its officials and dealing tax experts.-PR
