Arguments being advanced through fists and kicks: CJP

15 Sep, 2019

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khan Khosa on Saturday said that nowadays the arguments were being advanced through fists and kicks and the future historian will not forget or forgive us for this.
Speaking at a launching ceremony of a book "History of Pakistan-Reinterpreted" written by veteran lawyer S M Zafar, Chief Justice regretted and said future historian will notice that there was time when lawyer used to argue with his tongue and brain.
However, he talked about the legal profession and regretted the absence of values and professionalism and added what historians will write about the present time will not be pleasant.
He said it was inappropriate for him to comment on other walks of life in the present day situation. He lamented that nowadays at law colleges students of second year were invited to teach students of first year. "So you could imagine the kind of education that is being imparted. So this future historians will also write," he added.
Expressing his optimism about the country, CJP Khosa said, "We have to be hopeful, we can never afford to lose hope, this is the only home that we have and we have to improve it."
Talking about the judges, CJP Khosa said unfortunately the judges of present time were under so much pressure of backlog of thousands and thousands of cases and quality was not the foremost thing in their mind. Giving example of model courts, he said suddenly everybody started to deliver with same judges, same lawyers, same litigants and same law. He said the model courts decided over 13,000 trials in 127 days only.
