The Accountability Court hearing the multibillion rupees fake bank accounts case on Wednesday said that accused including Younus Kidwai, who is reportedly a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, and others would be indicted on September 25 in a corruption reference regarding illegal allotment of a welfare plot.
While hearing the case, Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir fixed September 25 for indictment of the accused. During the hearing, the court expressed annoyance over the absence of accused Abdul Ghani and ordered authorities concerned to ensure his presence on the next hearing.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has nominated nine accused including Abdul Ghani, an official of Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Matanat Ali Khan, former metropolitan commissioner KMC, Sami-ud-Din Siddiqui, former metropolitan commissioner KMC, Najam-Uz-Zaman, former director Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Wing KMC, Syed Khalid Zafar Hashmi, additional director KDA Wing KMC, Syed Jamil Ahmed, assistant director KDA Wing KMC, Abdul Rasheed, assistant director KDA Wing KMC, Muhammad Hussain Syed, former administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and Younus Kidwai, director M/s Programme.
Mustansar Hussain, the investigation officer of the case produced report of Younus Kidwai who has been declared a proclaimed offender. Following the directions of the court, the NAB provided the copies of the reference to the accused persons. However, the copies of the reference were not provided to Abdul Ghani and Younus Kidwai due to their absence.
The defense counsel told the court that Ghani went to Saudi Arabia for performing Hajj. The court ordered to ensure production of Ghani before it on the next hearing to be held on September 25.
