The poliovirus has left two more children crippled for life as National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad on Wednesday notified a new polio case from Tehsil Sarai Naurang Lakki Marwat and another case from Tehsil Wazir District Bannu taking the total count of polio cases to 52 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the details, one wild polio virus has been isolated from stool sample of 18-month-old girl, resident of village Zindhe Falak Sher, UC Takhti Khel, Tehsil Sarai Norgang, District Lakki Marwat. The child was zero dose for essential immunization while her SIAs history in under investigation.
Likewise, virus has been isolated from 24-month-old girl of UC Takhti Khel, Tehsil Wazir, District Bannu. On the recall the child has received one doze of essential immunization while her status of polio vaccination is under investigation.
In response to the reporting of new polio cases in the province, Coordinator EOC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Abdul Basit said that virus is on fire in southern districts of the province especially in Bannu Division and is circulating in environment that can hit any unvaccinated or immune-compromised child.
