New reports have suggested that Instagram might be planning to introduce a new donation sticker that will help raise funds via its Stories.

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong recently spotted photo and video sharing site Instagram testing a potential donation sticker for its Stories feature that will assist in raising money for different nonprofits, reported Tech Crunch.

As seen in the tweet, it seems like the feature would be available in the stickers section in Instagram Stories and users can search through a list on nonprofits to link directly to the sticker, explained The Verge. From there, other users can donate via that person’s story.

The feature seems similar to Facebook’s feature that it established back in 2015 and offers fundraising and donation tools for charity or personal reasons.

Regarding the feature, a Facebook spokesperson told Tech Crunch, “We are in early stages and working hard to bring this experience to our community . . . Instagram is all about bringing you closer to the people and things you love, and a big part of that is showing support for and bringing awareness to meaningful communities and causes.

“Later this year, people will be able to raise money and help support nonprofits that are important to them through a donation sticker in Instagram Stories. We’re excited to bring this experience to our community and will share more updates in the coming months.”

Moreover, such donation features requires users to input their credit card details, which means that by adding a fundraiser feature to Instagram, its parent company Facebook will be able to gain access to several credit card numbers that could be used for other commerce features.
