The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested on Wednesday the Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani in a case pertaining to owing assets beyond known source of income.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader was arrested from a private hotel in Islamabad and taken to the NAB headquarters, local media reported. NAB Karachi had collaborated with NAB Rawalpindi and carried out the plan to arrest Durrani.

The PPP leader was presented by the bureau before an accountability court to seek his remand. NAB has been granted a three-day transit remand of Durrani. The court has also directed that the PPP leader be presented before a relevant court in Karachi.

Last year, NAB had initiated inquiry against the PPP leader in several cases. NAB has accused the Sindh Assembly speaker of owning assets beyond his known source of income, illegally appointing individuals on different government positions and embezzling public funds.
