Sindh Govt. imposes ban on usage of prohibited nets for fishing

He said that Marine resources in Pakistan are on the decline as fishermen are using banned nets for catches in the country's seawater.

Sindh Secretary Livestock & Fisheries Aizaj Ahmed Mahesar, Director General Fisheries Dr. Allahdad Talpur, Director Marine Saleem Akhter and other officers concerned were also present. Illegal and prohibited nets were found from four boats of the fishermen which were seized during the operation for further legal action.

The minister also checked licenses and permits of various boats during the operation.  He directed the authorities concerned to take stern action against the fishermen found violating the terms and conditions of their permits. He told the fishermen that if they do not stop using illegal nets immediately, they will lose their livelihood. He further stated that if necessary, steps are not taken now, the fishermen will have no fish to catch in the future.

The Secretary Livestock briefed the minister about mangroves and sea pollution which is dangerous for marine. The minister directed the Secretary livestock to write a letter to Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) for taking necessary measures in this regard as the pollution has emerged as the most serious threat to marine life in Pakistani waters. He further stated that Sindh Government is committed to providing friendly environment to fishermen.
