ECP slaps Waheeda Shah with two-year ban; discards election result

KARACHI : In its decision, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified the Senate election result of Wahe

The incident occurred on February 25 when Waheeda struck a Presiding Officer Habiba Memon and Assistant Presiding Officer Shagufta Memon in the presence of police and other people during polling in PS-53 constituency of Tando Muhammad Khan.

The three-member ECP commission banned Waheeda Shah from contesting local body, Senate, national, albeit, any elections for two years.

Talking to the media, her lawyer Afzal Khan also confirmed that Waheeda Shah had been banned by the ECP from contesting elections for a period of two years from March 7, 2012 to March 7, 2014.

According to Khan, she has the right to appeal the decision.

Meanwhile, by-elections will be held for the vacant seat.

However, the credit goes to the media, which played a major role in highlighting the issue the result of which was the decision of the ECP discarding Waheeda Shah's Senate election results.
