At one point or other, there has been someone telling us the importance of ‘safely removing’ a flash drive before pulling it out abruptly from a PC. Microsoft has now clarified that there is no need for the safety ejection anymore.

Microsoft explained in its own guidance post that thanks to Windows 10 and its new feature, users won’t have to go through the ‘safely eject’ process anymore before pulling out a flash drive such as a USB drive from a PC.

Think twice before you skip ‘safely remove’ option while removing USB

The new feature called ‘quick removal’ lets the user yank a drive anytime – as long as they are not actively writing files to it. The feature is automatically set to the default setting for each new drive user plugs in as of Windows 10 version 1809 and remains in effect if a device is disconnected and connected again to the same computer port, wrote Microsoft.

The ‘quick removal’ keeps the device ready to be removed at any time. It keeps Windows from continuously trying to write to a flash drive which could help when a person disconnects it.

As per The Verge, Microsoft included this feature when Windows 1809 version started rolling out back in October, but was not known to many people and the firm has now started notifying professionals about the update on a broader level.
