KARACHI: Bihar Kings started SPC Bihar Premier League Tape-Ball Cricket Tournament with a 28-run victory against Bihar Leopards here Monday night at Kakri Ground in Lyari.
Bihar Kings batted first in the opening match of the tournament and put on board 87-4 in allotted eight overs. Mohammad Siddique batted well for the side scoring 24 off 13 balls while Ramzan Shah added 16 off 10 balls.
Kings later bundled out Leopards for 59 runs to record a 28-run win in the match. Wali Khan bowled lethally and captured four wickets for nine runs, and was later declared Man of the Match.
MPA Abdul Rasheed was the chief guest during the opening ceremony of the tournament, which has been organized to promote Lyari as a peaceful area of Pakistan’s biggest city Karachi.
Lyari has more recently been known as den for drug peddlers as well as gangsters. However, Lyari was previously known as hub of football and boxing in the city and this tournament aims to revive that positive image now with an aim to involve in healthy activities like sports.
Sports Promotion Company (SPC), the title sponsors of the tournament, has been supporting this cause and promoting the positive side of Lyari.
Rasheed on the occasion said that such events can change the way youth of Lyari thinks and they hopefully opt for healthy activities instead of unsocial ones like taking drugs and gang fights if such events are organized quite often.
