Parliamentarians urge implementation of Child Rights in Pakistan

The purpose of the meeting was to brainstorm on possible strategic actions to be taken by the parliament and executive for bolstering welfare and the holistic development of children in Pakistan.

The meeting participants strongly emphasized on immediate activation and functioning of National Commission on Child Rights creation of which was approved by the parliament through an act passed during 2017.

The Parliamentarians from all political parties suggested to raise this issue in the Parliamentand signed Call Attention noticein this regard.

All participants of the meeting also suggested to undertake an analysis to review the progress of provinces with regard to legislation, institutionalization and implementation of Convention on Rights of Childso that financial mapping can be suggested which is also very essential to meet the targets of SDGs.

Parliamentarians also highlighted the need of child focused fund allocation at provincial level for execution of Acts/ laws.

Convener SDG Task Force Mr. Riaz Fatiyana emphasized the need of collaboration and mobilization of financial support by the International agencies to achieve International commitments relating to SDGs targets.

The proposal for creation of National Forum on ECCE was also discussed it was planned that provincial level meetings with parliamentarians can also be convened on the subject of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and CRC.

The Parliamentarians assured their full support and facilitation in this regard and suggested to conduct next meeting to review existing Act – 2017 at the earliest so that necessary amendments can be made to make it more effective if required.
