Nashwa case: Hospital owners flee after court rejects bail

07 May, 2019

The owner and chairperson of Darul Sehat Hospital, Amir Chishti, and vice-chairperson Syed Ali Farhan fled on Tuesday after their interim bail was rejected by an additional district and sessions court in Karachi.

Both Chisti and Farhan had approached the court seeking  pre-arrest bail. However, their pleas were dismissed by the judge. The two were easily able to escape from the court as no one made an attempt to stop them, local media reported.

The investigating officer of the case also made no attempt to stop the two from fleeing. Last week, two doctors, Dr Sharjeel Husain and night duty doctor Atiya Ahmed, also fled after their interim pre-arrest bail ended.

Last month, nine-month-old Nashwa passed away after suffering from brain damage due to medical negligence at Darul Sehat Hospital. A case was filed by her father against the administration of hospital.
