The Supreme Court (SC) ordered on Monday to club a petition seeking the repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui with the case of Pakistanis jailed in foreign countries.
A three-member bench headed by Judge Azmat Saeed heard the case. During the hearing today, Deputy Attorney General Ilyas Bhatti informed the bench that Dr Aafia meets with Pakistan’s counsellor meeting every three months.
The judge said that the repatriation of Dr Aafia could be linked to other case of Pakistanis jailed in foreign countries. Judge Saeed also asked the deputy attorney general to review Dr Aaafia's case and whether she can complete her jail term in Pakistan. The top court has adjourned the hearing of the case indefinitely, local media reported.
Dr Aafia, a neurologist, has been languishing in a United States jail on charges of trying to kill US agents and military officers in Afghanistan. A US federal court in 2010, sentenced Dr Aafia to 86 years in prison.
