Amazon’s warehouse works have previously complained about the working conditions not being much favorable. Thus, in order to make work more ‘fun’ and motivate workers, the firm is turning different warehouse tasks in video games.
Amazon has recently installed screens at many of its warehouse workers’ stations that let employee to turn tasks such as assembling orders and moving items into competitive video games – a technique called ‘gamification’ that increases engagement in products or services, reported The Washington Post.
Different video games include options, including Dragon Duel, Mission Racer, PicksInSpace, and CastleCrafter and typically involve productivity-based point system. The more tasks a worker completes, the more points or progress they make in the game.
Workers’ physical actions like assembling orders and moving items are translated into virtual in-game moves. The faster someone picks items and places them in a box, the faster their car will move around a virtual track.
The Verge reported, the games are not only intended to make work less tedious, but also encourages higher productivity by pitting workers against one another in the virtual game world.
