The actor who shot to fame as a vampire in the ‘Twilight’ films has now been roped in to play another nocturnal hero, Batman. Warner Bros. has closed a deal for the ‘Twilight’ actor to play the Caped Crusader.

The Warner Bros studio confirmed to Variety on Friday that Pattinson had beaten the other names on the shortlist which included Nicholas Hoult to the role.

The film will start pre-production this summer, but there’s no word when filming will begin. It will be produced by Matt Reeves, who is known for the latest ‘Planet of the Apes’ sequels. He took the directorial helm from Ben Affleck who also played the Batman in ‘Justice League’ and ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

Last two Batman films received mixed reviews and were a disappointment for Warner Bros in its efforts to compete with Marvel Studios in the superhero genre.

Next Batman film will hit theatres on June 25, 2021.
