Smartphone makers are still trying their best to maximize the edge-to-edge display of their device, but selfie camera often takes up some space. Oppo, however, has teased a new device with a selfie camera built under the screen.
In the current present day phones, a tiny notch or a hole-in-display remains on the screen where the front camera is placed. Smartphone manufacturer Oppo recently posted a new teaser video showing off a smartphone with an in-built camera into the display.

Oppo informed that what was shown in the clip is their first look at the under-display selfie camera technology. The video showed a complete edge-to-edge smartphone in a selfie mode clicking pictures. To prove the camera is in-display, someone even brings their finger atop the device and it appears to be blocking the camera, proving that it is built under the screen.
Moreover, Oppo didn’t mention when the phone will be available for consumer use. Oppo Vice President Brian Shen also posted the video on Chinese website Weibo where he mentioned that it is hard for this technology to be like the existing one.
“At this stage, it’s difficult for under-display cameras to match the same results as normal cameras, there’s bound to be some loss in optical quality,” Shen said. “But, no new technology jumps to perfection right away.”
