Rumours about John Cena’s casting in the ninth installment of Fast & Furious surfaced back in April. Universal films has now officially confirmed that the WWE star has officially joined Fast and Furious family.
“For nearly 20 years, the Fast Franchise has entertained fans and created some of the biggest cinematic moments in history. It’s an incredible honor to join this franchise and this family,” Cena tweeted.
Cena’s role is being kept a secret for now, but Deadline reports that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is not slated to come back for Fast and Furious 9, which means it needs another house-size professional wrestler to have a face-off with Vin Diesel.
The Rock, meanwhile, will be seen in ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ which arrives on August 2.
Cena has previously flexed his action movie chops in films like ‘The Marine’ and ‘12 Rounds’ before being cast in major Hollywood franchises like ‘Bumblebee’ and the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel.
‘Fast and Furious 9’ will hit theatres on May 22, 2020.
