Justin Bieber recently challenged Tom Cruise to a mixed martial arts fight this week on Twitter, but the pop star has now apparently backed down from his own challenge.

“I think he would probably whoop my ass. He’s got that dad strength,” Bieber told TMZ. “It was just a random tweet. I do that stuff sometimes,” he said.

The whole thing felt a bit like some sort of brand-promotion rollout, where Cruise responded a day later with the announcement of a commercial featuring him and Bieber hawking a new vape pen.

The internet had a field day when Bieber challenged Cruise for a fight, even former UFC champion Conor McGregor said he'd host the fight. "If Tom Cruise is man enough to accept this challenge, McGregor Sports and Entertainment will host the bout. Does Cruise have the sprouts to fight, like he does in the movies? Stay tuned to find out!" McGregor tweeted.
