Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan is out of the remaining ICC World Cup 2019 after sustaining a thumb fracture.

According to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Dhawan has been diagnosed with a fracture of the first metacarpal on his left hand following a ball impact injury during the team’s first match versus Australia at the Oval on 5th June 2019.

“Following several specialist opinions, he will remain in a cast until the middle of July and therefore will not be available for the remainder of World Cup, added the Indian cricketing board,” the board revealed on Wednesday.

Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who was called up as cover for the injured Shikhar Dhawan in India's World Cup squad, has been confirmed as Dhawan’s replacement.

The latest development is a major blow to the mighty Indian cricket World Cup squad, as Dhawan was enjoying a magnificent form lately and has been especially enjoying a great track record in ICC tournaments.
