RAWALPINDI: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed Tuesday said that Pakistan Railway had become a profitable entity and now the profit touched to Rs 55 billion.
He said the present government was taking all possible measures to overcome the losses of Pakistan Railways and ensure the provision of comfortable, modern, swift and safe means of transportation to the passengers.
He was talking to journalists at Rawalpindi Railway Station while reviewing the security arrangements of non-stop train from Rawalpindi to Karachi Sir Syed Express on July 3.
The Minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan would inaugurate Sir Syed Express on July 3 while PM would also inaugurate the latest Command and Control center soon.
Regarding the facilities in Sir Syed Express, he said the train would have in-house television, wifi, cabin service, on wheel restaurant, bedding, sound system and accessories kit.
He said that Pakistan Railways had announced advance booking for the train and till date all the seats of Sir Syed Express were booked and no more seats were available.
He informed that 10,000 jobs in Pakistan Railway would be fill to clear a backlog created due to unemployment over the years.
Counting the mega development projects initiated in Rawalpindi, the Minister said that mother and Child Hospital an advanced health facility equipped with latest gadgets along with 400 beds in progress and would be completed soon.
Multi billions development project of ML-1 and Nullah Leh would change the fate of the residents of the city, he added.
He informed that Pakistan Railway had retrieved its land from grabber’s worth millions of rupee.
Sheikh said that the employees were the asset of Pakistan Railway and all available resources would be utilized to facilitate them.
The Minister thanked Supreme Court (SC) verdict to hand over the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club to Pakistan Railways.
