The opposition parties in the Senate submitted on Monday a no confidence resolution against Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani to the secretary of the Upper House.
The resolution, which demands the removal of Sanjrani, was submitted after it was signed by the opposition members. The opposition also submitted a requisition to convene a Senate session, local media reported.
The opposition's anti-government 'Rehbar Committee' is expected to announce the name of another candidate for the Senate chairman on July 11.
Prior to the submission of the resolution against the Senate chairman, a meeting chaired by Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq was held. The meeting was attended by leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam.
The removal of Sanjrani was decided at an All Parties Conference on June 26.
