US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday the United States still had a long way to go to conclude a trade deal with China but could impose tariffs on an additional $325 billion worth of Chinese goods if it needed to do so.
The local share price index futures fell 0.2pc or 13 points to 6,569, a 72-point discount to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index close. The benchmark ended 0.2pc lower on Tuesday.
New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index rose 0.1pc at 2204 GMT.
