Victoria Secret angel Shanina Shaik has revealed that iconic Victoria Secret Fashion Show has been shelved for this year.
“Unfortunately the Victoria’s Secret show won’t be happening this year,” Shaik told Daily Telegraph. The show, which has run for over 20 years, is working on its branding this year. “It’s something I’m not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an Angel. But I’m sure in the future something will happen, which I’m pretty sure about. I’m sure they’re trying to work on branding and new ways to do the show because it’s the best show in the world,” she added.
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show has suffered from diminishing ratings for several years. Reportedly, the 2018 show hit a record low in viewership with a 0.9 rating within the target demo of viewers between 18 and 49 years of age, with a total audience of 3.27 million.
While the news is certainly shocking, many anticipated major changes to the show after Les Wexner, the founder and CEO of L Brands (the parent company of Victoria’s Secret), said that they needed to ‘rethink the traditional show’ especially after its ratings plunged to historic lows last year.
