According to Sindh Adviser on Environment Murtaza Wahab, the ban will come into effect from October 1.
The provincial adviser said that there will be a ban on manufacturing, selling and use of plastic bags, adding that a big reason for choking of nullahs is due to these bags.
Senator Wahab shared a message on twitter from Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, urging residents to replace plastic bags with cloth bags.
"Sindh Govt has started an awareness campaign against the use of Plastic Bags for being disastrous to environment. CM Sindh requests citizens to support the campaign and help Sindh Govt save the environment. It has been decided that plastic bags wont be allowed from 1st October," he tweeted.
Convener, FPCCI's Standing Committee on Environment, Gulzar Firoz has welcomed the decision of Sindh Government to completely ban polythene bags in the province.
This step will save the province and the country from many environmental and civic issues including choking of sewerage and drain system by polythene bags, said statement issued by Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Friday.
