South Korean mill buys 30,500 tonnes wheat from US, Canada

HAMBURG: South Korean flour mill SPC Samlip has purchased about 30,500 tonnes of wheat sourced from the United States and Canada in a tender on Tuesday, European traders said.

The seller was believed to be trading house Itochu for shipment in November.

The purchase involved about 20,000 tonnes of US wheat and about 10,500 tonnes of Canadian wheat.

The US purchase involved 6,500 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14% protein bought at $274.33 a tonne c&f, 2,000 tonnes of northern spring of 14% protein content at $274.00 a tonne c&f and 5,400 tonnes of hard red winter of 11.5%-12% protein at $257.50 a tonne c&f.

It also involved 4,600 tonnes of soft white wheat of 9.8%-10.5% protein at $276.54 a tonne c&f and 1,500 tonnes of soft white wheat of a maximum 9% protein at $284.40 a tonne c&f.

Some 10,500 tonnes of Canadian western red spring wheat of grade 2CWRS with 13.5% protein was also bought at $272.00 a tonne c&f.

Another South Korean mill had on Monday also purchased 30,000 tonnes of US-origin wheat.
