Firdous refutes reports of PM-Afghan Taliban meeting

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday refuted reports suggesting Afghan Taliban leaders held a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday. Taking to Twitter, Awan clarified that the news report regarding the meeting is not correct. However, she said that the talks of a delegation of Taliban Political Commission with the foreign minister in Islamabad on Thursday last are a positive sign for Afghan reconciliatory process.

She said this process is evident of the fact that Pakistan has always played an important role to create a favourable environment for regional and global peace. The Afghan Taliban delegation's meeting with the foreign minister was part of this process, and it will hopefully yield positive results. She said that it is a proof that Pakistan has always played constructive role in creating conducive environment for world and regional peace. However, she said, the Taliban delegation did not meet the Prime Minister, and the reports published and broadcast in this regard are baseless.
