Pakistan former captain Aamir Sohail has came harsh on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) saying that appointment of Misbah-ul-Haq as head coach and chief selector was the board’s major mistake.
“It's really the people who appointed him [Misbah] who should be taken to task for this mistake. If a person who has never had any experience of being a coach is appointed as head coach of Pakistan and also given the task of being chief selector, then who should be blamed for that? Think of it from a player’s point of view,” stated Sohail, at PakPassion.net.
The statement comes after Pakistan suffered a humiliating 3-0 whitewash in T20I series against the inexperienced Sri Lankan side.
The former opening batsman cum cricket pundit pointed out that the players would be ‘very hesitant’ to approach Misbah-ul-Haq who happens to be both head coach and chief selector of Pakistan cricket, which will be unfavourable for Pakistan.
“The fact is that players will not find it easy or possible to interact with a person who is their Head Coach and also Chief Selector and so PCB have made a blunder and they must now suffer the consequences,” said Sohail.
Sohail is not the first to point the perils of dual roles, similar statements were given by former Australian batsman Dean Jones who has also served as Islamabad United head coach. “In my opinion in cricket, you cannot have both roles as a head coach and a selector. Imagine if you were a player with some technical or mental problems.. would you be honest with your coach as you are more likely to be sacked!” Jones said in a Twitter post.
