Actor Billy Porter has officially been cast as the fairy godmother in the upcoming live-action 'Cinderella'. Porter, who had been in talks to play the role for some time, announced the news at the 20th New Yorker Festival.
Sony’s upcoming live-action Cinderella will also star Camila Cabello in the iconic lead role. Billy, the Emmy-winning actor, shared his excitement via the New Yorker’s Instagram stories too. “I have a couple movies that I'm working on,” Billy said. “I'm gonna be playing the fairy godmother in the new Cinderella movie with Camila Cabello."
Most recently, at this year’s Emmy Awards, he became the first openly gay black man to win an Emmy for lead actor in a drama for his work on ‘Pose’. He has also previously received Tony Awards and a Grammy too.
Billy grabbed eyeballs when he donned a floor-length gold dress with a dramatic cape on Met Gala red carpet. He also stole the show at Oscars 2019 in black velvet tuxedo which extended into a voluminous skirt.
Billy has reinvented Cindrella’s godmother with his unique style statements at the recent red carpets.
‘Cinderella’ is set to be a modern musical rendition of the classic fairy tale conceptualized by James Corden and written and directed by Kay Cannon.
