23 Jun, 2014

Karachi – 23rd June, 2014: K-Electric (KE), under its ongoing drive against illegal connections and electricity theft raided a Plastic factory in Golimar in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) where it was confirmed that the factory was powered by illegal electricity connection.

KE and FIA teams along with KE police raided Dubai Plastic Industries situated in Firdous Colony, Golimar 2 and found that some of the heavy machinery was functioning on four illegal cables of 96mm. These four cables were directly connected to the KE main line due to which the meter showed lower reading than the actual electricity consumption.

In this operation, a theft bill of Rs. 54.5 million for 36 months was made. After the revelation, the team removed the unauthorized cable and confiscated around 14-20 cartons of raw material as evidence. In relevance to this confiscation, the SIR was also signed by Electrical Inspectorate Karachi (EIK) representative.

According to the KE press statement, the electricity was disconnected after the raid and few arrests were made by FIA but unfortunately the owner escaped from his office.

During the investigation, the team also discovered that the owner has one more office with the name of Dubai Traders located in Golimar 1. The KE has directed IBC Nazimabad to have a thorough check of this office as well.

KE along with FIA has been conducting an anti-theft drive all over Karachi so that electricity theft can be controlled. The reprehensive exercise will help curtail electricity theft and ensure more fair and equal distribution of electricity to the citizens of Karachi.
