Illegal buildings in slum areas: Minister warns of action against owners, contractors

Sindh Human Settlements and Special Development Minister Ghulam Murtaza Baloch has warned of action against the owners and contractors of illegal multi-storied buildings located in slum areas. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sindh Katchiabadies Authority. He instructed Secretary Katchiabadies Ahmed Bakhsh Narijo to survey multi-storied buildings in slum areas and said in the first phase, survey of large buildings should be done and NOCs should be checked from the relevant authorities for the high rise buildings.

Presiding the meeting, he directed the Secretary Katchiabadies to form an inquiry committee on the issue of lease voucher of vacant plots in denotified Bedal Colony Karachi and submit probe the report within a week. He also directed the regional directors of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Shaheed Benazir Abad, Larkana and Sukkur to work together with commissioners and deputy commissioners to increase the dues collection.

Ghulam Murtaza Baloch directed the regional directors to play their role in achieving the targets and said only the officers who are performing well will be given posting and strict action will be taken against those who perform poorly. Secretary Katchiabadies gave briefing on budget and it was also decided that the proposed budget of Katchiabadies Authority of Rs 417.383 millions for the year 2019-20 would be presented in the Sindh cabinet meeting.
