PPP slams government's act of dissolving PMDC

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has strongly condemned the government's random, arbitrary move to dissolve Pakistan Medical and Dental Council- an internationally recognized statutory body that regulates the medical profession in Pakistan.

It seems this is PTI Tabdeeli mission to destroy Pakistan's institutions as announced by a federal minister recently.

PPP considers this move to destabilize medical profession and healthcare in Pakistan. Further about 200 people will lose their jobs as a result of this senseless move. Already the doctors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in Punjab are suffering under the policy of gross commercialization of healthcare by the prime minister's parachuting cousin who is a dual national and running half of Pakistan's health system on skype.

This move will further create chaos in an already appalling state of medical system of the country, destroying existing institutions, says a press release.

At the same time we also condemn the promulgation of the so called Pakistan Medical Commission Ordinance, 2019, a similar ordinance the Senate had already struck down. We consider this no less than a coup on healthcare in Pakistan as this ordinance has been imposed bypassing the parliament. This is yet another attempt to undermine the Parliament which has been rendered ineffective and redundant by selected government rule by ordinances. PPP would oppose this move with full force. The PPP also announces its support to the doctors' movement for restoration of the social welfare based health services in KP and Punjab.-PR
