Punjab cabinet approves amendments in Code of Criminal Procedure

The Punjab Cabinet, which met here on Tuesday with Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar in the chair, accorded approval to amendments in the Code of Criminal Procedure under which the government would be able to grant magisterial powers to authorized officers to ensure effective implementation of power mechanism.

The Cabinet also accorded approval to amend the Punjab E-Stamp Rules, 2016, which would facilitate people in their online payments. The cabinet meeting also decided to link the amendments in Punjab Police (Ministerial Posts) Rules, 2017 with concurrence of the law department and Law Minister Raja Basharat will submit a report in the next meeting in this regard.

The meeting also accorded approval to amend the police rules with regard to the recruitment of inspector legal (special cadre) in BS-16 in Punjab police. The mechanism of vice-chancellors' appointment for the University of Agriculture Multan, the constitution of the search committee and guidelines were also approved along with the confirmation of minutes of 18th provincial cabinet meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the CM made it clear that no one will be allowed to disrupt the routine life of the people and indiscriminate action will be initiated against law-breakers. He reiterated that protection of life and property of the people and maintenance of law and order is the responsibility of the state which will be fulfilled because it is the priority of the government.

Provincial ministers, advisors, special assistants, chief secretary and others attended the cabinet meeting.

Moreover, CM Usman Buzdar in a meeting with Federal Law Minister Barrister Farogh Naseem discussed matters of mutual interest including the welfare of the lawyers' community.

Talking on the occasion, the chief minister said that new rules have been introduced in a short span of time by the Punjab government, adding that necessary amendments in different laws will be continued for the welfare of the people. The Punjab Assembly will set a record of legislation as new acts are being introduced keeping in view the needs of the people and legal fraternity, he said.
