The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Museum & Art Gallery was illuminated with Pink colour on Monday to raise awareness for the prevention and treatment of Breast Cancer. Governor SBP, Dr Reza Baqir pressed the button to switch on the pink lights. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Reza Baqir acknowledged Pink Ribbon Pakistan's efforts in raising awareness regarding this dangerous disease.
He said that it is alarming that the like other Asian countries rate of breast cancer is quiet high in Pakistan and according to estimates the prevalence rate of breast cancer in Pakistan is approximately 40 percent. However, it is satisfactory that there are 90 percent chances of life saving, if it diagnosis timely, he added.
The Governor SBP said that the State Bank is putting efforts for awareness regarding breast cancer and in October every year SBP in collaboration with renowned hospitals conduct lectures on breast cancer awareness. He emphasized on the importance of cooperation of all the stakeholders to fight the menace of breast cancer. It may be mentioned here Pink Ribbon is doing Pink illuminations since 2012 because Pink landmarks give a wonderful visual reminder that every woman should be aware of Breast Cancer. The Governor SBP also appreciated the efforts of Pink Ribbon Pakistan for creating awareness of Breast Cancer since last 15 years.
