Veteran Pakistani actress Iffat Omar recorded her statement in favor of Meesha Shafi in her sexual harassment case against Ali Zafar.
The actress told the court that Meesha and her mother Saba Hamid both enjoy a good reputation in the industry and are highly respected, Dawn reported. “I can never imagine that they would ever lie,” she said.
Iffat further said that Meesha had visited her at her home 10 days before her initial tweets accusing Ali of sexual harassment, and she had seemed very distressed but would not reveal what was wrong. Meesha only detailed the incident after she went public with the allegations, Iffat said.
Earlier, Meesha’s mother Saba also recorded her statement in the court. “I didn’t advise her to go public with the accusations. I told her to take that decision for herself. I informed her about the positive and the negative effects of going public with the harassment accusations,” she told the court.
“After getting harassed three times, Meesha said she wouldn't go to the same place again,” Saba added.
Ali had accused Meesha of leveling harassment allegations against him for monetary benefits. Meesha has also filed a defamation case against Zafar stating that the fake statements had caused a loss to her goodwill and pleaded with the court to direct Ali to pay damages.
