This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "Doing business report and beyond-II" carried by the newspaper yesterday. Dr Omer Javed, the writer, has demonstrated a highly professional approach to what actually constitutes the crux of the matter in an academic manner. The economic team of prime minister Imran Khan has failed to take a similar path with a view to articulating policies that are urgently required to deal with a slew of economic challenges facing the country - a fact that has been strongly highlighted by noted economist Dr Ashfaque Hassan in his analysis titled "Aftermath of the IMF programme: some recommendations" carried by the newspaper the same day. That Dr Omer Javed is profound is a fact that has found its best expression from his articulation: "The level of economic freedom is of paramount importance to both businesses and economy in general, not to mention the positive impact of such freedoms on the quality and depth of democracy."
