KARACHI: The traders of Karachi have rejected the government decision of closing the markets by 8.00p.m describing it impracticable and warned of tough resistance in case forced closure was imposed on them.
"The early closure of business would not bear any fruit. If the traders are forced to close business, we would turn the markets into battle-field," chairman, All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, Attiq Mir warned ina statement on Monday.
"The business in Karachi has already been affected by violence and lawlessness and the business community would strongly protest if any other attempt is made to destroy it further," he added.
Attiq Mir criticized the provincial government for approving the decisions of a meeting held with federal minister for water and power Naveed Qamar, wherein 2-day weekly off and early closure of markets were decided, and demanded withdrawal of such decisions.
The leader of traders' alliance viewed that the rulers are forcing the closure of business and trade organizations on the pretext of saving the energy. He did not agree to the contention of government that the move would save 700MW electricity. He instead urged to prevent power theft across the country that would save 3000MW electricity.
Attiq Mir said closure of markets by 8pm could be possible only if the load shedding of electricity ends during day time.
