'AG says no contempt of court against PM'

Talking to the media on Tuesday, Counsel of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Aitzaz Ahsan said it's the prosecutor's duty to give legal opinion.

To a question, Aitzaz Ahsan said that requirements of criminal cases are different.

In reply to another question, he said maximum sentence for contempt of court is six months.

"We want to abide by the law and constitution," said Ahsan.

Ahsan speculated that acquittal of the prime minister may be announced when he appears before the court on April 26.

Earlier, the Supreme Court reserved the verdict in the contempt of court case against Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

A seven-member special bench, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk resumed the hearing on Tuesday, while the newly appointed Attorney General Irfan Qadir was the prosecutor.
