The Rahbar Committee of opposition political parties on Tuesday announced a change in its 'plan-B', asking the opposition activists across the country to open the highways and roads with not creating hardships for general public, besides calling for an all-parties conference (APC) to intensify pressure on the government.
The representative body of nine opposition political parties met here at the residence of Karam Khan Durrani, the convener of the committee, and discussed the prevailing political situation and exchanged views on the ongoing protest drive against the PTI government.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Durrani said that in view of the public miseries, the committee has decided and asked the workers of the opposition parties to avoid blocking highways and the roads and instead a decision was taken to hold public rallies jointly at the district level.
He said that the committee has instructed the opposition's workers to open the highways and roads right from the Tuesday night, adding that it was the unanimous decision of the committee. To further intensify the anti-government movement and chalk out the future course of action, he said that the committee decided that an APC should be convened in the earliest, adding that the Jamiaty Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman will soon the ACP.
Durrani said that the a joint protest will also be held in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) today (Wednesday), adding that the opposition parties will jointly nominate the two members of the ECP on the vacant positions of the election body. He said that the opposition parties will demand of the ECP to fix the PTI's foreign funding case on daily basis.
He further said that the committee reiterated its demand that the government should go to home and an early election without any role of the military should be announced forthwith.
Farhatullah Babar, the PPP representative in the committee while speaking endorsed the point of the JUI-F's Durrani, saying that the committee was also apprised of the dialogue held between Maulana fazlur Rehman and PML-Q leader and Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi. He said that the committee was satisfied on the explanations given by Durrani about the dialogue.
PML-N representative Ahsan Iqbal said that through the joint efforts the opposition political parties will press the government send it back to its home, adding that every passing day of the government was adding to the miseries of the people. "The solution to the current challenges is only in the fresh polls in 2020," he said.
