(Karachi) PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf tried to influence the Election Commission so that it could not decide foreign funding case on merit.

He said this while addressing media persons at the National Press Club in Islamabad on Thursday.

He said that Imran Khan and his party committed the worst corruption as they are not presenting evidence of party funding. He said PTI had been creating hurdles in the way of the Election Commission to hide its corruption.

He mentioned that the PTI did not declare 23 accounts in the Election Commission in which transactions worth millions of dollars were made.

He said, “In reality, loan amount came from abroad in treasury bills.”

He said the advisor to prime minister accused the PML-N of influencing the foreign funding case. “We have been demanding for the past five years to decide the foreign funding case,” he said.

Iqbal said the PTI government had been keeping the nation in dark regarding the economy and has led it to the brink of destruction.

The PML-N leader remarked, “When you want to keep secrecy in cases, it means there is something you are hiding.”

Innocent overseas Pakistanis were tricked into donating funds for the party while painting a fake and bleak picture of the state of affairs in Pakistan, Iqbal alleged, adding that these donations were not disclosed anywhere and plundered through private accounts.

"It was the worst robbery in the history of Pakistan's democracy," he added.

He said that the PTI is waiting for the chief election commissioner to retire on December 6.  “

The PML-N asked the ECP to decide the matter as soon as possible, Iqbal said, instead accusing the PTI of hindering the ECP from functioning freely under a strategy.

"Now we have understood why the PTI created obstacles in agreement on two ECP members' appointment and now they are waiting for the chief election commissioner to retire so they can raise the point that in the absence of three of its members, the ECP cannot run its business,” said Ahsan Iqbal.

He pointed out that the PTI leaders believe in character assassination and portray themselves as clean and corruption free.

The PML-N leader said that the nation demands of Imran Khan to provide receipts of transactions made into the PTI accounts.

Iqbal said the corruption in public accounts could not be pardoned. He said that the government wanted to send Mian Nawaz Sharif abroad as a symbol of insult. He demanded to hold free and fair elections in the country to get rid of the present government.
