After multiple sexual abuse allegations against music composer Anu Malik over the past weeks, the celebrated Bollywood singer has stepped down as judge from popular Indian reality TV show Indian Idol.
“He conveyed to the channel today that he wants to step down till he clears his name,” a Sony Entertainment Television insider told PTI. However, it is uncertain whether the channel accepted his resignation.
Few days ago, there have been reports that Malik will return as a judge in an upcoming season of Indian Idol, which once again irked many. Singer Sona Mohapatra, who has accused him of sexual harassment, lashed out at the channel following his return to the show and urged the channel to take a wise decision.
Meanwhile, Malik, in an open letter, pleaded innocence and said that these ‘false allegations’ have left him distraught.

He also told Pinkvilla that whoever is leveling allegations against him should provide the proof and he is ready to face the inquiry.
“I have requested Singers Association of India (SAI) to call the singers who have been carrying out this social media campaign against me and explain themselves. If they have proof whatsoever against me, why don’t they show it? I am ready to face an inquiry. But, this entire malicious campaign against me has left me no where. I will clear my name soon and return with a clear mind,” Malik told Pinkvilla.
It all started in 2018, when Mohapatra had, for the first time, called out Malik's name, alleging sexual misconduct, which forced the composer to step down from season 10 of the show last year. Other female singers such as Neha Bhasin and Shweta Pandit had also joined Mohapatra in alleging sexual harassment against Malik.
