Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari filed on Tuesday an application in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking bail on medical grounds in the money laundering through fake accounts case.
Zardari has sought bail in both fake accounts case and Park Lane case. His sister Faryal Talpur who is also arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the same case, has also filed for bail, local media reported. In her petition, Faryal has requested bail saying that she is the mother of a special child and needs to take care of her.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari during a brief news conference after meeting his ailing father at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Monday, had announced that the former president had agreed to file for bail on the insistence of Aseefa Bhutto, his daughter.
Bilawal further said that there are some procedures that they want to carry out as soon as possible regarding his father's ailment. He said while the doctors at PIMS must be skilled, he does not trust them and would feel satisfaction after getting a second opinion.
NAB arrested the PPP co-chairman on June 10 after the IHC rejected a plea by Zardari and his sister seeking an extension in their interim bail in the case. Following the arrest he was remanded into NAB's custody and later into Adiala Jail. Later, Zardari moved an accountability court seeking to be shifted to Karachi for treatment.
However, the accountability court rejected his transfer plea.
