That the present-day China is far more economically stronger than the then Soviet Union is a fact. That China continues to persevere against growing US hostility without losing sight of its global economic goals is another important fact. That is why perhaps the former 'middle kingdom' has taken "reciprocal" measures against US diplomats in the country, ordering them to notify the foreign ministry before meeting with local officials. It was the US that ordered in October Chinese diplomats to notify the State Department in advance of any official meetings with US diplomats, local or municipal officials, and before any visits to colleges or research institutions.

The self assured hubris in the Trump administration is shaken by China. It is about time the US brought to an end its belligerence against China.
