Gilani still PM, MNA: Law Minister

KARACHI: Law Minister Farooq H. Naek has said Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is still the PM and a member of the National Assembly, the media reported on Saturday.

Naek said,he is still the prime minister, adding the Cabinet is still.

The law minister said, the Supreme Court has not given a  detailed verdict, An appeal cannot be filed until the Supreme Court gives a detailed verdict, and as such the verdict does not include disqualification of the prime minister.

He said, the Registrar of the apex court is misusing his authority by writing a letter adding the legitimacy and privilege of the Parliament has been hurt by this act.

A Parliamentarian can be disqualified under Article 63 (1) (g), said Naek.

No directives were given for Speaker or the election commissioner in the verdict, said Naek

Talking to the media, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said, “We fought our cases in courts.”

Kaira said the prime minister respects the judiciary and always will.

About PML-N, he said Nawaz Sharif obstructed courts 19 years ago and is trying to intimidate the judiciary again.

“We don’t want conflicts, nor are we threatening anyone,” said the information minister.
