Over 7 including SHO killed in Lyari, police given orders to shoot on sight

Police has been given orders to use snipers and shoot armed persons on site without warning.

Earlier, a huge explosion was heard at Cheel Chowk in Lyari.

In what can be called a war zone, at least two people were killed earlier and more than 15 suspects detained during a joint operation conducted by the Police and Rangers on the second consecutive day.

The killings have brought the death toll so far to at least 7 and more then 25 injured in the last two days of violence in the area.

Police vehicles were being attacked with rockets and hand grenades, and there was an exchange of persistent firing, in which SHO Civil Lines Fawad Hussain also lost his life. His body has been shifted to the Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Women and children came out of their homes but were sent back in by law enforcement agencies.

Talking to the media, SSP CID Chaudhry Aslam said that forces will rid the area of criminal elements and bring the law and order situation under control tomorrow or the day after if not today.

According to Edhi sources, a man was shot dead by unidentified armed persons at Cheel Chowk, Lyari area on Saturday.

Edhi said the deceased was identified as Luqman, 25, son of Abdul Hamid. He was killed when unknown persons opened fire on him and fled away.

The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
