(Karachi) King of Bahrain Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa conferred the kingdom's highest civil award to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday. During his maiden visit to the kingdom, the premier met the king at the Sakhir Palace.

The prime minister and king of Bahrain also inked three agreements in the fields of higher education and scientific research, sports and medical sciences.

Prime Minister Imran Khan reached Bahrain on his two-day visit. He is visiting the country on the invitation of King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa to attend the Bahrain’s National Day as the guest of honour.

The prime minister is accompanied by Special Assistant for Overseas Pakistanis Zulfiqar Bukhari. Reportedly, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is not part of the delegation accompanying the PM.

This is Imran Khan's first visit to Bahrain since assuming office in August last year.

During the visit, the prime minister will hold delegation-level talks with Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa. The exchange of views would cover the entire gamut of bilateral relations and matters pertaining to regional and international issues.

Pakistan and Bahrain enjoy close cordial ties based on commonalities of faith and culture and marked by mutual trust and understanding. The bilateral relationship is broad-based and multifaceted, covering diverse fields including political, trade, commercial, defence, people-to-people contacts.
