A cyclonic over northwest China is likely to start affecting north and northwest region of Pakistan in the next two days, the Met Office said on Monday.
"This trough is transporting cold air from the north/northwest into Pakistan which will cause cold conditions in the upper parts of the country during the next 2 to 3 days," it added. A fresh western system, it said, is expected to reach between Thursday and Sunday may unleash isolated rain-thunderstorm and snowfall at the country's high mountains of western and northern.
In the next 24 hours: Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while very cold in upper areas. Dense fog is likely to prevail in the most plains of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning and night hours. Frost is also likely to form in Potohar region and the most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the last 24 hours: Weather remained dry and cold in the most parts of the country while very cold in upper areas. Skardu and Astore witnessed the lowest temperature up to minus 9 degrees Celsius each, Kalam minus 8, Bagrote minus 7, Gupis minus 6, Hunza and Malamjabba minus 5 each, Parachinar and Kalat minus 4 each, Gilgit and Quetta minus 3 each, Dir minus 2, Murree and Chillas minus 1 each.
"Dry continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country," the Met said. Weather in Karachi is expected to remain fair with cool nights in the next 24 hours with humidity ranging up to 14 degrees Celsius of temperature and 60 percent humidity.
The Met also advised the farmers to complete cultivation of wheat till mid of December to obtain a better yield. It said that Irrigation practices and use of pesticides may better be suspended due to expected rainfalls in the coming days throughout the country.
