Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Asif Saeed Khosa is set to retire at midnight on Friday after serving for almost 11 months.
On Friday, Khosa took up his last case hearing at the Supreme Court. The case related to Amna Bibi, who was critically injured by firing in Murree.
The legal representative of Amna Bibi told the court that accused Sajid, Rashid and Qadeer barged into the house of the victim and opened fire on her.
He added when the accused were produced in the court, Amna Bibi did not raise objection over their bail.
The chief justice remarked it seems that the situation took an ugly turn after the said incident. He added Amna Bibi is still in hospital with bullets inside her body.
Khosa said the court is not issuing any orders in the case as it is still being heard.
He took oath this year on January 18 after the retirement of Saqib Nisar on Jan 17. Justice Khosa will be replaced by Justice Gulzar Ahmed. Justice Gulzar will take charge as the country's chief justice on December 21, a day after the retirement of Justice Khosa. Justice Gulzar will be the 27th CJP and his tenure will end on February 1, 2022.
Justice Khosa over the course of his nearly two decade long career has decided about 55,000 cases. A special bench headed by him has decided over 10,000 cases of a criminal nature since 2014. On February 18, 2010, Justice Khosa was elevated to the position of a Supreme Court judge.
Justice Khosa was among the two who said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif should be disqualified. He was also part of the bench that acquitted Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy charges.
