US envoy calls on Punjab IGP

A two-member delegation led by Security Attaché for the United States Consulate Mathew Copek called on Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastgir at the central police office on Friday.

Briefing the US envoy about the working of the Punjab police, the IG said the entire department was ensuring effective utilization of modern technologies in investigations due to which the public service delivery system is getting better along with maintaining supremacy of law in society.

"Due to intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Punjab, the incidents of terrorism have been reduced considerably," Shoaib told Mathew while highlighting that the Special Protection Unit (SPU)'s personnel, a specialised wing of the Punjab police established for the security of foreigners, are diligently performing their security duties.

Acknowledging the efforts of the Punjab police in countering terrorism through latest technologies, the delegation members expressed all the IT-based projects were up to the mark of international standards. "Modern surveillance systems in different districts of the province like Safe City Lahore will prove very fruitful. Mutual and professional cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries will be enhanced," said a police spokesperson quoting Mathew as having said.
